Our Students

Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) have awarded a large share of bachelor’s degrees to African American students in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM), and nine of the top ten baccalaureate institutions of African American STEM doctorate recipients from 2006-2010 are HBCUs. The SMED Program is an exemplary program with a dedicated mission of increasing the number and quality of STEM doctorate recipients.

   The SMED Doctoral program is a research and scholarship doctoral program in K-20 focusing on science/mathematics education (SMED) and the use of learning technologies to improve STEM (Science/Technology/Engineering/Mathematics) education.

This program provides a unique research environment including research mentorship through our alumni association, our Council of interdisciplinary faculty and our international Dissertation Advisory committee members. Our students are required to publish before they graduate from the program.

   Our dissertation Advisory Members is composed of Global Experts in STEM Research and in Learning Technologies. Our Alumni serves as Research Mentors to help you as you progress toward your graduation.
